A-TEAM

What is the Great Northwest A-Team? Simply put, we are a group of residents, your neighbors, who are dedicated to the continuous improvement of the Great Northwest. Improvement not just in appearance, but in all aspects of the neighborhood. We dedicate our time and efforts in providing a safe, clean and friendly neighborhood for you and your children. This is done through coordinated efforts from A-Team members and the community.

We need your help! No, not days, weeks or months of your time. We all know that time is precious and some of us would like 25 hours in a day. All we ask is that you put in the time that you feel you can. Listed below are some of our activities. If one of them fits you or additional neighborhood needs come to mind, give us a call at 681-2983.

  • Helping people become neighbors
  • Improving Our Neighborhood
  • Helping our Environment
  • Motivating our Children

2008 Project Schedule

March 15, 2008 - 9am - Graffit Clean-up

The next Great Northwest A-Team project will be a graffiti clean-up along Timber Path on Saturday, March 15. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. that morning in the parking lot of the Great Northwest Lodge, 8809 Timberwilde, to organize ourselves. The project looks to be a big one, so if you can be available to help for any length of time at all we certainly want to have you there. If you have neighbors or friends who would be interested in helping on this project, please tell them about it. To help with planning, please let me know by the 14th if you will be able to participate.

I am working on getting the supplies we will need from our maintenance director, Fred Murphy. If you want to bring your own brushes and rollers that would be a help, but it is not necessary.

Timber Path was chosen as the focus of this effort because it is one of the major thoroughfares in our community and one of the prime graffiti problem areas. In the unlikely event we are able to make our way all the way down Timber Path in a relatively short time, it would be good to have additional areas to go work on until we decide to quit for the day. Does anyone have any suggestions? If we cannot do these areas on the 15th, we can tackle them at a later date.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me.

Past Projects - 2008

January 12, 2008 - Ridge Creek Clean-up

On Saturday January 12 approximately 15 members of the Great Northwest community gathered at Ridge Creek Park to make repairs and perform grounds maintenance to improve the park's appearance and usefulness to area residents. This project was what is hoped will be the first of many for a revived Great Northwest's A-Team.

Earlier in the week the association's maintenance staff, headed by Fred Murphy, began the project by clearing overgrown shrubbery and vines from around the park entrance, repainting the picnic tables, and cleaning graffitti from equipment.

Ridge Creek Clean-up

On Saturday after a short organizational meeting the volunteers set to work pruning trees and shrubbery, raking, sweeping and piling the trimmings, and clearing the fence line on three sides of the park. Later some volunteers worked on cleaning more graffiti and repairing one of the picnic tables. In less than four hours the looks of the park were improved considerably. Once all the accumulated brush is removed the park will look even better. On Sunday and Monday following, a few volunteers were able to return and begin painting the entrance area and the playground equipment. When completed this will further enhance the appearance and appeal of the park's facilities.

The commitment of the volunteers was key to the success of the project. Everyone who participated worked steadily, efficiently, and cooperatively for as long as they were able to stay. During their labors they got to know one another better and enjoyed good fellowship together. Conversation among the volunteers brought out numerous good ideas for future projects and improving our community.
