GARDENER'S GALORE

“Gardener’s Galore,” an exciting group exploring and learning more about successful gardening in our part of Texas, is launching an expanded program for persons living in and near the Great Northwest.

Under the leadership of Carol-Lee Fisher, gardening in northwest San Antonio should flourish. Carol-Lee is a well-known gardener and nutritionist, both locally and in the Napa Valley of California. She is currently Co-President of the San Antonio Herb Society, and will include the growing and use of herbs in today’s health conscious society in topics under discussion at Gardener’s Galore. Other issues to be covered will include soil preparation, organic gardening, what grows best in our area, and all aspects of gardening.

“Every Texan should have fresh flowers from your garden in containers scattered around your home; organically grown fruit and vegetables, plus herb pestos and sauces, coming straight from your garden to your table; and a growing knowledge of the joy and fulfillment of gardening,” Carol-Lee challenges. “This is particularly important in view of today’s emphasis on health and nutrition. Gardening can be simple and fun, if you know the proper answers to Central Texas growing conditions, and that is what we will be learning together!”

Field trips to local nurseries, the Botanical Gardens, a Butterfly Garden, and nearby herb markets are being planned. You will be making new friends from your neighborhood who also enjoy gardening, and experiencing a new and creative bounce to your life.

The group meets on the last Tuesday of each month at various locations in our area from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Call Anne Powell at 210.681.0483 for specific information.

Come out and join with other members of Gardener’s Galore in beautifying the Great Northwest area and improving our personal lifestyles.

Residents gather in Carol-Lee's back yard for National Night Out in August 2004.
