At the meetings themselves, members frequenty listen to a guest speaker from the San Antonio Police Department. It could be an officer who does community liaison and teaches the Block Captains how to patrol their neighborhoods with a cell phone (COPS Program), or it could be a narcotics officer with trained canine to demonstrate techniques used to detect drugs in the neighborhoods. |

What is the Watch Program? The GNW Watch is a group of residents who Anyone can be a Block Captain. It takes very little time to type up a flyer to put on about 20 doors once a month, and the meetings are held monthly, usually on the last Wednesday of the month. The biggest reward for Block Captains is the knowledge that their efforts have helped prevent crime in the Great Northwest. It's a lot of fun too! Getting Answers in San AntonioGot a Complaint about something in the City of San Antonio? Well, they've made it easier for you to report problems. Here are two ways to report problems or find out "stuff" in the City of San Antonio. Method 1: Use your phone to call 311 and tell them about it. If nobody tells the city about it, then how to you expect them to "fix" it? Visit the 311 web page for more information.

H.E.A.T. is a statewide vehicle registration program administered by the Texas Department of Public Safety that helps law enforcement officials identify stolen vehicles. Any vehicle owner in Texas can obtain decals for his/her car or truck that authorizes law enforcement officers to stop the vehicle and verify ownership, between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., anywhere in Texas, or if the vehicle is crossing over into Mexico. Just complete the H.E.A.T. registration application to have your vehicle entered in a statewide database, accessible by law enforcement agencies, 24 hours a day. Personal and company vehicles are eligible for H.E.A.T. registration. You don't have to be a permanent Texas resident to participate in the program as long as you can provide a Texas address and phone number. Got Questions? Call the Texas H.E.A.T. Program toll-free at 1-888-447-5933 or visit the F.A.Q. National Do Not Call Registry Back in 2003, the National Do Not Call Registry was founded, but there was a five year renewal required to keep the database current. If you don't want Telemarketers to call your phone number, or if you registered years ago, you might need to renew. Go to the Link www.donotcall.gov to register up to 3 of your number(s) directly |
GNW Wins Honorary Mention We won "Honorary Mention" award for our NNO display at the city's award ceremony on 09/24. There were 812 registered events city wide on August 7th. The GNW was one of a few dozen receiving the Honorary Mention category award. Chief Roger Burton, NNO Chair Betty Hood, Chairman Besing, Vice Chairman Doherty, and some other GNW residents were present to accept the award.
We receive the above full sized metal sign that is reflective at night (or when you take a flash photo of it). We'll look into some options about possibly installing a a post to display the various years' awards for our residents, or figure out a way inside the Lodge to display them. |
