GNW Organizational Chart

To give you an idea of how our staff is organized and arranged, we have posted our organizational chart on-line for you to view. We have approximate 20 full time employees, plus multiple seasonal part time employees as needed (such as Life Guards, Pool Gate Guards, Newspaper Carriers, Referees, etc.). In addition, we have some contracted employees such as the editor for our newsletter. This structure will vary from time to time, but the chart we have posted here should be basically accurate over time. This chart is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format (42.8k).

Our full time employees accrue paid vacation and medical leave, plus paid or partially paid medical insurance coverage. Pay checks are paid every two weeks. Direct deposit is available upon request. Medical coverage is usually some form of PPO or similar type program. Full details will be provided upon hiring, so ask Community Manager for details.

About the Great Northwest Community Improvement Association, Inc.

The Great Northwest Community Improvement Association, Inc. is an incorporated non-profit mandatory membership deed restricted property owners association of about 19,000 residents located in the Northwest San Antonio (Texas) in the Tezel / Grissom / Culebra Road area. GNW incorporates five fully developed subdivisions, plus we have two more subdivisions under construction and a possible third one in the works.The association provides comprehensive facilities, programs and services to its members through full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff, working with community volunteers. We are the largest homeowners association in the San Antonio area.

Drug Screening / Physicals / Personality Evaluations

Drug screening showing no evidence of illegal drug use is a precondition to employment by the Great Northwest. Physical exams are required for some positions. Drug screening, physicals (as required) and Personality Evaluations (normally done for managment level staff) are at the Association’s expense. Where applicants have equal qualifications, preference in hiring is given to Great Northwest members. Limited additional benefits are provided to summer staff.

Job Opening: Community Manager - Filled

JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Board of Directors, is responsible for performing professional work supervising the activities of Great Northwest Community Improvement Association, Inc. (GNW). Exercises direct supervision over department directors and office staff.  Creates work schedules and programs.  Works with department directors to create a proposed annual budget for board approval, oversees expenditures and other related outlays for the Association.  Purchases equipment and supplies within approved budget amounts.  Develop and maintains stock of informational materials, prepares briefings and presentations as required. Acts as primary liaison between the Board, Department Directors and the office staff.

Job Opening: Newspaper Editor / Reporter

The editor is responsible for putting together our monthly newspaper, accepting articles contributed by staff members, regular columnists or residents, and working with the community manager to track advertisers, classified ads, etc. The paper is produced presently using Insight Design and the finished "pre-flight" version delivered electronically or via a CD-R to our office for publication. This is a "work from home" type of position with minimal need for face-to-face meetings at our office. Most articles are submitted electronically via email, some scanning of photos may be needed. There is a fixed submission deadline for each issue, giving the editor about a week to finish up the issue before going to press. Compensation is based on a per issue basis, paid upon completion of each issue.

Skills needed would be profficiency with desktop publishing, experience with publishing newsletters / newspaper / magazine style work, and a high level of professional standards regarding the quality of the final output product.


Job Opening: Accountant

Basic Job Description: The successful candidate for this position should be able to perform a variety of clerical duties in support of the Association. Accounting Degree is required. Responsible for administering the finances and the preparation and maintenance of necessary and appropriate financial records and accounts. Must be able to maintain records in compliance with GAAP. Able to work with our external CPA and Tax Accounting firm. Knowledge of batch accounting programs required, computer hardward/software literate. Must be proficient with current version of Quickbooks Pro Business Edition. TOPS Accounting Software experience preferred. Neighborhood / Homeowner Association experience also a plus. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Access Database with Power Point expertise a plus. Able to assist Community Manager with presentations before the Board of Directors and to help work with annual budget.

Job Opening: 2008 Summer Life Guards

DEADLINE FOR APPLYING. Each application will be reviewed upon arrival. Applications will be accepted until all positions have been filled.

We will be hiring for the following positions during the 2007 Swim Season to staff 2 pools.

POOL MANAGERS
• HEAD LIFEGUARDS
• LIFEGUARDS

Successful applicants will fill summer lifeguard positions at the Association’s Emerald Valley and Silver Creek pools. Pools operate on a limited schedule in May and September and six (6) days per week June through August. Successful applicants will be eligible to earn additional wages by teaching swim lessons and life guarding at private parties held at Great Northwest pools. Successful applicants may also be considered when assistant swim team coaches are selected. Only serious and responsible applicants need apply. Successful applicants will demonstrate maturity, responsibility and leadership.

Successful applicants will be of good moral character; in good health; have a working knowledge of pool operations and display tact, courtesy, patience and discretion dealing with pool patrons and other staff members; be willing to take direction and work as a team member with other staff members; work flexible hours. Head Lifeguard applicants must be at least nineteen (19) years of age by May 1, 2004. Lifeguard and part-time/substitute Lifeguard applicants must be at least seventeen (17) years of age by May 1, 2004 to apply.

Prior lifeguard experience is preferred but not mandatory. Applicants must have current required lifeguard and CPR certifications before employment begins; first aid training; and must be Water Safety Instructor (WSI) qualified by June 1, 2004 except Head Lifeguards who must be WSI certified before the pool season begins.

Applicants are urged to complete WSI certification before the summer swim season. The Recreation Director will assist as possible in arranging April and/or May WSI course(s). Successful applicants must have a working knowledge of pool operations and display tact, courtesy, patience and discretion dealing with pool patrons.

Duties include life guarding; record keeping; water testing; wet area maintenance as assigned; opening and closing facilities; putting out deck furnishings and outdoor equipment; enforcing pool rules in a firm but tactful manner; ensure adequate supervision of swimmers at all times; and dealing with disturbances in a firm but courteous manner, with the assistance of staff as assigned; and undertaking other duties as assigned.

Preference will be given to applicants who can work throughout the summer pool season, May through September. Uniforms are provided and are required to be worn as directed.


Job Opening: 2008 Summer Pool Access Control Officers (Gate Guards)

Pool Access Control Officers (Gate Guards) as required to provide full access coverage during operating hours as required. Successful applicants will control access to the Emerald Valley and Silver Creek pools during operating hours. The successful applicant will be of good moral character; honest; able to handle guest fees and records; alert, warm, friendly, polite, patient and able to deal appropriate with an occasional difficult patron. Successful applicants will work as a team member with other staff members. Demonstrated maturity and responsibility is required.

Duties include patron checks for current membership cards; admitting guests and collecting guest fees; recording, depositing and accounting for guest fees; record usage statistics; distributing information, and dealing with suggestions and complaints. Preference will be given to applicants who can work throughout the summer pool season, May through September. Uniforms are provided and are required to be worn as directed.


Job Opening: Recreation Director - Full Time

The Recreation Director is responsible all of the recreation activities for the Great Northwest. He/she must have experience in organizing and executing sporting events for adult and children, parties, celebrations, and special occasion events of all kinds. He/she will supervise and direct the seasonal recreation staff and prepare/maintain publicity, registration materials, records for all recreation programs/activities, classes/instructional programs, and write articles for Association newspaper.

He/she must prepare an annual calendar of recreation activities, classes,  and programs sponsored by the Association. He/she must be creative, able to work within a budget, display tact, courtesy, patience and discretion in working with recreation program participants and volunteers. He/she must be able to recruit and maintain volunteers for the various Association activities. He/she must be able to administer and schedule the use of Association playing fields and courts, communicate and coordinate the use of Association facilities with community neighbors such as schools.

He/she should have the ability to respond to suggestions and resolve complaints received from recreation facilities users. He/she must negotiate the purchase of equipment, repairs/maintenance of recreation facilities, and contracts. The Recreation Director recruits, screens, interviews and hires seasonal recreation employees. Must be enthusiastic and up to the challenge of making the recreation programs and activities at the Great Northwest second to none.

Must have a valid driver license, appropriate post-secondary education, supervisory experience, Word, Excel, Outlook. Pool Operations certification or any other pool/recreation certification helpful. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal history background investigation.
