GNW Library ReOpens October 26th - Yeah!
After the ceremony at 10:10am, which lasted about 30 minutes, the ceremonial "first checkout" was a 12 year old girl who was identified as being a Home Schooler. Her sister wanted to be next, but didn't have her library card with her, but she soon tracked down her mom and brought the card back to the checkout desk so she could be the 2nd ceremonial checkout person. The meeting room has been expanded, with an outside door, microphone on the speaker's podium, a pull-down screen, and free wireless (wi-fi) Internet through out the building and even in the parking lot. Many of the "old" staff members we were used to seeing were present, including the Head Librarian, Diana. |

Where Are All the Books & DVDs? Have you every searched the shelves at the local library and wonder where all the books, CDs or DVDs are? Well, other patrons have them checked out, or they are at another library location. But don't despair, there is a solution.
Enter your name as shown on the card (no punctuation needed) and then enter your account number from your card. This usually starts with the series "21551....." Simply enter the numbers without any spaces or dashes. Fill out your personal profile to include your email address so they know where to send you notices. You can choose to have them mail you a written notice instead, if you don't have regular email to use, but email is much faster for timely notices.
Mark an item to save on hold, select your local library (such as the Great Northwest) for a hold location, put in a date to say "forget it" if you don't receive it by then (or skip the date and it defaults to 12 months). The first available copy will be transferred to the GNW (if that was your pick) and you should receive an email advising you when it was ready. That is all there is to it! Here is the new Check-out and Returns Desk. It is over toe right as you enter the library. GNW was the first to go wireless, but the Library Director said that by the end of 2006, all SA public libraries would be wireless.. Any patron bringing their laptop computer can access the Internet from inside the Libary, or possibly even in the parking lot. There were 19 computer Internet stations spread through out the library, with about half in the new children's section. New Kids section not only featured more books, but a new kids play area that includes a puppet show stage. |
