FRIENDS of Great Northwest Library

We are recruiting members for Friends of Great Northwest Library, a group that will be affiliated with the parent organization, Friends of San Antonio Public Library (FOSAPL). To join this friends group, you need to join FOSAPL for $15.00 per year and designate your affiliation with the Great Northwest Library. Five dollars of your membership will go to the Friends of Great Northwest Library. If you are already a member of FOSAPL, you may add Friends of Great Northwest Library to your current branch affiliation for an additional $5.00 per year. Contact Denise for more info.

Where Are All the Books & DVDs?

Have you every searched the shelves at the local library and wonder where all the books, CDs or DVDs are? Well, other patrons have them checked out, or they are at another library location. But don't despair, there is a solution.

Did you know that you can use the Internet to reserve books, DVDs or CDs that might be at another library? Free? Using the member number on your library card, simply log into their web site found at www.sanantonio.gov/library and simply click on the "my account" button.

Enter your name as shown on the card (no punctuation needed) and then enter your account number from your card. This usually starts with the series "21551....." Simply enter the numbers without any spaces or dashes.

Fill out your personal profile to include your email address so they know where to send you notices. You can choose to have them mail you a written notice instead, if you don't have regular email to use, but email is much faster for timely notices.

Search the catalog by clicking on that button, or select "new items" to see what has recently been added to the library system this month.

Mark an item to save on hold, select your local library (such as the Great Northwest) for a hold location, put in a date to say "forget it" if you don't receive it by then (or skip the date and it defaults to 12 months). The first available copy will be transferred to the GNW (if that was your pick) and you should receive an email advising you when it was ready. That is all there is to it!

Kid computer area

There were 19 computer Internet stations spread through out the library, with about half in the new children's section.
