Why is that Red Flag Flying
on the Silver Creek Soccer Fields?

Those of you who participate in our sports programs year after year know that when the red flag is flying, it means that the fields are not open for playing upon. This primarily happens right after a big rain storm when the fields are wet and the turf would be damaged by the players (such as during soccer season) if the fields were used at that time. There are two flags in use, and sometimes only one will be up if only that area is affected. Flag #1 is at Silver Creek complex near the volleyball courts, affecting the front corner field where the younger soccer crowd plays. Flag #2 is behind the Silver Creek tennis and basketball courts by the baseball diamond. When Flag #2 is up, as it was on Saturday, April 30th when the thunderstorm chased everyone off the field, it means that the soccer fields are closed and there will be no practice or games allowed that day. Opening Day for 2005 Spring Soccer Season was in April and (now former) Rec Director Mark Zoller mans his computer with the rosters and team schedules out on the field while the announcer reads some general announcements. (Photo by Lee Besing)
