EASTER EGG HUNT
It was a beautiful Easter Sunday morning as the volunteers arrived to hide over 6000 candy filled eggs for the 2005 Great Northwest Easter Egg Hunt. It was a great success with a large turnout of over 500 residents and children who anxiously awaited the start of the hunt at high noon. Many were dressed in their brightly colored Easter Sunday best. As the volunteers prepared the field for the children and their parents to arrive, the sun slowly peeked out and shone bright through the early morning clouds. The hunt began promptly at noon when the Easter Bunny Chief, Enid Rosario, (GNW Office Service Specialist), blew the whistle from the middle of the field signaling the start of the event. The field was divided into three sections. Each section was designated by age group: under 5 years, 6-10 years, and 11 years and older. As the whistle blew, the children hurried off in a frenzy to collect as many eggs as would fit in their baskets. Mixed in with the thousands of candy eggs were over 100 prize eggs with small slips of paper inside which residents could redeem for prizes. Raffle tickets were also given out; one ticket for every 10 plastic eggs that were returned. Some of our youngest Great Northwest future homeowners were chosen and then lifted onto a table by Maintenance Director Fred Murphy, to draw the winning raffle tickets. Residents and children enjoyed the warmth of the sun accompanied by cool breeze, as they hauled away their Easter treats. The field was now empty again. Can’t wait till next year! |
