Election Countdown

WHERE TO VOTE

EARLY VOTING LOCATIONS

We extended invitations to all declared candidates in each of these three races and received a very positive response! Every candidate in each of the three races, initially accepted and confirmed their attendance at our event, although as you will read below, there were a few last minute changes in schedules. These events and related visual aid presentations were organized and coordinated by Director Lee Besing who may be reached at 771-7075 for more info or via email at lee@Besing.com. The moderator for all three events was Dr. Martin Meltz (GNW resident).

In the stories below for each event, we have included hyper links to each candidate's web site, or to their page on the SAelections.com web site. We discovered this web site (www.saelections.com) that is covering the San Antonio City Elections in a non-partisian manner and decided that we would like to share it with you. This web site is an independent site, not specifically endorsed nor sponsored by the GNW. Visit it and make your own judgement about the various candidates. The links we used for each race above go to related pages at that web site.

DISTRICT 6 DEBATE

On Monday, April 4th, we held our first debate, the one for District 6 City Council. There were around fifty persons attending this event. The above photo shows the six (of eight) candidates who participated. In the photo (Left to Right) are Candidates Dominick Dina, Larry Romo, Ray Pena, (Moderator) Dr. Martin Meltz, Saul Santos, Ray Lopez and Delicia Herrera. Not attending were Pete Galaviz and Michael Gonzales. Click on photo for larger view. DISTRICT 7 DEBATE

On Monday, April 11th, we held our second of a series debates, this time for City Council District 7. We initally started off at 7pm with all eight candidates present, but unfortunately candidate Ernie MacDonald had to leave unexpectedly after receiving an urgent phone call. Present during the debate in the above photo, left to right, were candidates Cynthia Test, Elena Guajardo, Noel Suniga, the moderator Dr. Meltz, Fred Rangel, Ted Kenyon, and Jim Valdez. We had a lively and excellent debate, with Director Lee Besing again supplementing each of the questions with a slide to illustrate the topic being discussed on the computer projector. MAYORAL DEBATE

On Tuesday, April 12th, we hosted our third and final debate for the City of San Antonio's Mayoral Race. Of the seven candidates running, we had five of them participate in our debate, plus one candidate who could not attend at the last minute did send a representative to present an apology to the group. Present during this debate (shown in above photo left to right) were candidates Rhett R. Smith, Julian Castro, Everett Caldwell, Carroll Schubert, the moderator Dr. Martin Meltz, and candidate Julie Iris Oldham. Candidate Phil Hardberger sent his apology, and Michael Idrogo did not show. GNW In the News

We had a newspaper photographer and reporter from San Antonio Newspaper (SAnewspaper.com) attend some of our Meet the Candidate Debates in April, plus a local meeting at Zachary Middle School to talk about graffiti problems. Here are links to these stories.
