The Great Northwest Community Improvement Association is made up of approximately 5,000 homes and nearly 15,000 residents. Established in 1976 on the northwest side of San Antonio, the Great Northwest is one of the larger self-managed, single-family homeowners associations in the state of Texas and is comprised of seven subdivisions. The community offers a variety of resident amenities, including two large pools, recreational fields, lighted courts, playgrounds, and two private clubhouses.
The Association offers a variety of recreational programs and activities, including youth soccer, swim team, and swim lessons. Annual events such as community yard sales, car shows, summer Dive-In movie nights, and holiday events help enhance community spirit and provide opportunities for both longtime and new residents to connect.
The Association is governed by an elected seven-member Board of Directors. Board members are residents of the community who volunteer their time to provide guidance and oversight of the self-managed Association. Board members are elected by the membership, with open positions filled annually. The Board meets twice monthly and welcomes homeowner attendance and participation in shaping the future of the community.
